As the lovely Pauline tagged me in her #5Facts on Instagram I thought I’d post my response on here!
1) I’m a member of Girlguiding
Girlguiding is always something I have been involved in since being old enough to join Brownies, and I’m still in it to this day. Ok minus a few years when I started high school as I thought I was wayyyyy to cool for it… 🤦🏻♀️
Guiding has been a large part of my life for the past 5 years since I joined The Senior Section. It opened me up to this brand new world where I was surrounded by people who actually had the same interests as me and wanted to go on crazy adventures up and down the country!
Through Guiding I’ve done activities I would never have had the opportunity to do normally, like abseiling, zip-lining, survival skills and more!
And your gal can make great fire! 🔥
Never mind the fact I met my two best friends through it – and now we are more like sisters, I know these girls will always be there for me. ❤️
But most importantly it brought me out of my shell. I wasn’t confident until I joined Guiding and was a very shy person. I can’t thank those enough who helped mould me into the woman I am today.
2) I never intended to work in technology
I know – shocker. Now I could never imagine working in any other field, but originally I never wanted to work in technology – I wanted to be a midwife.
This started when my mum and I started watching Call the Midwife when its first series launched on BBC. I saw this brand new world of strong women who helped every woman cope throughout their pregnancy and never falter when there were complications.
Now I know what you are thinking – Clare it’s only a TV programme, and yes it is, but real midwives are not different in any way.
I hear the women in my family talk about how their midwife helped them through their births, and how much respect they have for them and I really aspired to be one.
3) I HATED working out
Until this past year exercise has been the bane of my life. I don’t think I’ve ever hated anything so much.
I was one of those girls who never enjoyed PE, I never tried to get out of PE, but it was never something I liked.
I’m not entirely sure what it was, because now I love working out. The flow of endorphins around my body is just amazing!
4) I love reading
When I was younger my favourite pastime was reading, and I always read before bed to help me go to sleep, as I’ve grown up I’ve been finding less and less time to fit this into my schedule. However, now I’m really trying to bring it back into my life!
At the moment I’m just fitting it into time that I find to pamper myself, but when this happens I will quite happily get lost in the book I am reading for up to an hour at a time!
For the past year or so, I’ve just been reading classics and I’m loving each book. I’m currently reading Bram Stoker’s Dracula and I’m hooked!
5) I’ve studied Ancient Greek
Back when I was at college I took an course in Ancient Greek where I learnt to read and write the language. Sadly I left the college before I could take the exam as I got my apprenticeship – so I have no proof I can!
