Over the past couple of month I’ve been intermittent fasting to help aid weight loss and I’ve found paired with exercise it’s one of the best things for me.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to lose weight, depending on the shop I fit in clothes sizing from 6-10, and as rule of thumb I’m a size 8 and I’m so happy with my weight, but I still get affected by bloating and swelling and I use I.F. to help keep this at bay as much as possible.
What is Intermittent Fasting?
Intermittent fasting is changing your eating pattern so that you cycle through fasting and non-fasting.
For example you may chose to eat for 8 hours of the day, however for the remaining 16 hours you can’t eat.
Intermittent fasting is definitely a mindset too, as when you know you are outside your eating window you’ve got to stay strong and not give into the biscuit tin!
Why Intermittent Fast?
Your start burning fat from your body 8 hours after you stop eating. For most people this is while they sleep, and by the time they have woke up for breakfast, they are just out of this window due to late night snacking.
With intermittent fasting you are extending that window by a few hours which means your body burns fat for longer. In my case I fast for 16 hours a day, which means my body burns fat for 8 hours more than it usually would on a daily basis.
How do I do it?
The amount of time you fast is entirely up to you. I’d recommend newbies to fast for 13 hours to begin with, which gives you an 11 hour eating window.
I’d recommend fasting for less time as your first week can be horrific. In my first week I felt tired, lethargic and I had an insatiable hunger.
However, after my first week I felt full of energy, I wasn’t hungry between meals and even started eating less!
Technically with I.F. you should eat two larger meals rather than three. However, as someone who works full time I prefer to eat a small breakfast, a small lunch and a regular sized dinner, and overall I probably eat the same as someone eating two meals. Outside of your window ensure you are drinking lots of water! Yes you will need to go to the toilet a lot more, but your body will benefit from it!
And remember – STAY STRONG! 💪🏻
How do I know I’m outside of my fasting window?
The best way I keep a track of if I’m inside or outside my fasting window is through the app Zero.
I receive a notification every time my fasting window is over. It’s my favourite notification of the day as it means it’s time to eat!
When you’ve finished your eating window, just restart your fast on your phone and let the cycle recommence!
It also keeps a track of how well you are doing so you can see how well (or not so good) you’ve done in the past.
The benefits I’ve seen!
Since I’ve begun intermittent fasting I’ve found that my portion size has been reduced, and although I will be hungry on a morning when I wake up, I generally lose hunger for most of the day.
It’s also helped me lose quite a bit of weight and consequently my abs are very visible!
As I’m not keen on fully transforming my diet in regards to what I eat, I.F became the best option to help weight loss while still being able to say yes to a slice of cake!!
